BIOGRAPHY
I arrived in Hollywood in late 1978 to pursue my Acting career of which I was very much interested including Writing, Directing and Producing. I spent the next two years in and out of Paramount Pictures learning the business, I attended the filming of several shows including Happy Days, Taxi, Laverne and Shirley, and Little House in the Prairie, Chico and the Man. Where I learned so much about the Movie Industry. And then I went over to Universal and spent time during the filming of Kojak, all unofficial of course, they were kind enough to let me in. I became friendly with a lot of the big stars of the time, I learned a great deal from them especially Michael Landon he was a true champion and a Master at what he did and was very nice to me. Every time I saw filming on location I would stop and hang around and would talk to as many people that I could, I was surprised how much I learned just by talking to them. Scott Baio was the best friend anybody could have, the casts and crews at Paramount were simply the greatest of the time, So much talent, so much grace. I have no regrets; I was still in the sidelines as a minority. Of course it was much easier back then, to visit the studios and talk to people. I have over 30 years experience in the entertainment industry and a life time of wonderful memories from those difficult years.
At the same time all these great things were happening to me, I also worked the USA famed tour of Mexico’s film star Antonio Aguilar the National Mexican Festival and Rodeo Show which was seasonal. I worked with the Mexican film star like this for over 25 years. He is indeed the greatest teacher I ever had, because from him I learned more about producing not only his show but a lot about filming. As he was filming 2 movies a year for many years. In later years I took control of the Tour and planned it out. I negotiated with the top USA venues and acquired product placement, did the advertising and wrote the TV spots for the Radio stations, including the Posters and Newspaper ads. I even made it as the Master of Ceremonies a few times. I also invested in the show a few times. All this time I was in and out of Hollywood. Never forgetting my passion for the Hollywood movie Industry, knowing that one day I would produce my own film, which I finally did.
My first film was about the life of a singer in Dallas, Texas “The Raul Garcia Story”, a documentary. Then I wrote several screenplays “My favorite Blondy” a romantic comedy, “Humble Rose” a drama, “The Devil Made Me Do It” a comedy, “The Ringo Bingo Kid “ a family drama, and “Robo Teen” a comedy, and most recent, “The Rave” a drama/horror. "Kissing Cousins" a drama, "The Bully's Ride" a drama, "Broke Flat Graduate" a drama, "If I Were Smart" a drama, "That's Not My Baby" a drama.
Of which “The Ringo Bingo Kid” is now complete and in distribution representation (no contract) with TNT MEDIA GROUP. I wrote it, I funded it, produced it, and directed it. And I have no regrets.
I am good in managing people under me, as I use to oversee over forty professional employees I was responsible for. I work well under extreme pressure and I don’t fall apart. I take disagreements well from others; in fact I accept it because the last thing I want is a “Yes” person around me.
I work well around big name celebrities as they don’t faze me; I grew up around big stars, Mexican and American. I don’t imagine them on the red carpet I imagine them on the business table. They are only human and part of us in the Industry, and for the most part like to be treated as such. I am careful not to disrespect anyone, but I am not afraid to approach them.
I don’t work for free and charge plenty, because I value my work, and do produce results. I do know you can get anything done with the right amount of Budget. I like to negotiate but not so much as to bring harm to the project I am working on, I like to be very careful with that, because the project comes first. But if you know what you want and need sometimes you just have to pay for it.
I like working with people even if they have made mistakes in the past as we all have. I don’t judge them; I look at what they can contribute above their mistakes,
And at what they know. I like to think that your mistakes make you stronger and not weaker. I like to be fare, but I like to be firm.
I have never had college training in producing and directing except acting classes. I have only worked with some of the best Producers and Directors and stars. And can only answer with a life time of experience. So if a Studio would ask me what you are good for, I would like to tell them I am good in Producing and Directing and finding funds for film projects. I am also very good in coordinating a production in its entirety. And I am also quite good at Casting.
I don’t know everything, but I know a lot and I am still learning and need to learn a lot more. I like the challenge of things.
Thanks,
Raul Gomez
